My Wild Things

Andrew & Chloe have decided that they want to become entrepreneurs.  Their business will be called "My Wild Things" and they will specialize in handcrafted designer crayons!  It all started last weekend when we decided to take some of our old crayons and repurpose them.  We bought some silicone molds from Dollar Tree and googled directions.

1.  Remove all of the paper from the crayons and break them into small pieces.

2.  Clean out pop cans, cut the tops off (be careful the edges will be sharp).  Place the
broken crayons (by like color) into the pop cans.

3.  Place about an inch of water into a sauce pan and put the pop cans inside.
We set the temp just a little warmer than simmer.

4.  Watch the crayons carefully and stir with dowel rods.
You want the crayons to melt, but you don't want the wax to separate
from the color (this happens if the cans get too hot).
*Some crayons melt at a slower rate, so just pluck those out.

5.  Pinch the top of the cans to make a lip and pour into your molds
(this should be done by adults only!) DUH!
**You can add two or more colors, then take a tooth pick and gently
swirl the colors.  If you wait too long the crayons will harden and won't mix

6.  If using silicone molds, just let them cool on their own.  If you are using
plastic molds, let them cool and then place into the freezer for a few minutes.
This will help them to pop out like ice cubes.
