What's In Our Mommy School Binders? #Homeschool

One of the first things that we do during Mommy School is our binders.  I have this ready for Lily to just work through on her own in the morning.  This is when I'm making breakfast for her and Thomas.  Lily will sit at the counter and work on her binder.  That way I can keep an eye on her and answer any questions.  If I don't have the binder out and ready, she wants to watch TV and I'm really trying to limit that!  starting.....NOW!

Each week, we focus on one letter, number, shape, and color.  She knows her shapes and colors, but I'm wanting her to feel confident throughout school.  Below you can find the pictures of what's in her binder along with the links of where to find the pages.  All of the pages are kept in a clear sheet protector.  This acts like a laminate, so she can use dry erase markers and the pages can be reused.  Some of the pages come out of the sheets and get marked daily.

Both pages are from Preschool Calendar Notebook
by Mama's Learning Corner
.

The monthly page is from Preschool Calendar Notebook
 by Mama's Learning Corner
.  This sheet comes out
of the sheet protector and Lily marks each day of the month.
She uses the Bingo markers that we get from Dollar Tree.
The name page is one that I created.  You can find the tutorial here

Each month, we take out this sheet and have Lily write her name.
This allows me and Lily to see how she's progressing.  At this point,
I have her name dotted and she traces it then writes it on her own.
I printed these from Preschool Calendar Notebook by Mama's Learning Corner.

The rest of the notebook is filled with pages that go along with the week's
letter, shape, color, and number.  These are the links where I found the printables:
1+1+1=1  (Tot Time Notebook- ABC Tracing & Coloring)
1+1+1=1  (Tot Time Notebook- Numbers & Shapes Tracing & Coloring)
Home School Creations (Playdoh Number Mats)
Home School Creations (Playdoh Letter Mats)
Preschool Printables (Trace the Color Words)
Shirley's Preschool Activities (Letter Writing Worksheets)

I'm sure as Lily progresses we'll change up the morning binder.  But for now it's working great.  She loves using the dry erase markers and her little eraser.  It helps keep her busy while I'm getting breakfast together.  The first couple of times I did need to show her what each page was for and how to use them.  After a few times, she became a pro!

Lily decided to turn the one circle into a face with angry eyebrows!
She got that from Veggie Tales!

  1. When do you print out most things and put it together? Looks great!!! I need to do something a little more structured with Payton like this.

  2. Hey Tiffany! I try to print them out on Saturday evening or during a nap (if I can get them to sleep at the same time). For the binder, I can reuse a lot of the pages and just trade them out the next week for the new letter, number, shape, etc.
I'm going to be posting about our routine- calendar time, math journal.....but it's pretty lenient, some days we get a lot done and others we're just lucky to survive!

  3. I LOVE this idea! This would be perfect for my 3 year old to use while I'm putting the baby down for a nap. Thank you -- and thanks for the links!

  4. Thanks for reading. This has helped me out so much since I also have a 1 year old. Lily can work a little on her own while I'm focusing on Thomas. Hopefully it will help you out too!

  5. Thanks! Lily loves getting out her binder. Today her Poppy (Grandpa) stopped over to visit and she had to get it out to show him.

  6. Ooo! I really like those calendar pages! My kids could definitely use some work on knowing which day it is and how the time passes (weeks, months, years, etc.) Thanks for sharing how you do your preschool binder!

  7. I have a 2.5yr old and have been trying to find age appropriate material for her. Would you reccomend this for that age and if not do you have any links or suggestions on where I should look? Any advice appreciated!!

  8. I would definitely try it out. It really depends on your little one. I've got 4 kids and really only Lily would have been ready at 2.5 years, the others were just too busy! There are tons of blogs that do a Tot School for their little ones around age 2-3. You could google Tot School blog and get tons of suggestions that way.
